"America 4 Boston Prayer Canvas" project
Teachers should encourage their students to express their ideas on peace through different community projects. The America 4 Boston Prayer Canvas project was an excellent project that allowed students to join in a country wide project that was to bring encouragement to the Boston community after the Boston Bombings (click here for link to news article on this project). Peace columns: Students work in groups to create a column that displays their message of peace to the world.

Peace hoops: Using wax resist and dye on silk stretched on hoops, students paint their message of peace.
Peace flags: Inspired by the Tibetan prayer flags, students used wax resist and dye on silk to create their message of peace or a depiction of a peaceful place. The flags were strung in with the background color in the same order as the prayer flags: Blue for space, white for air/wind, red for fire, green for water, and yellow for earth (http://www.prayerflags.com/download/article.pdf).

Peace poles: I made a peace pole as a gift to the school. We chose to have "Lord, grant us peace" written in eight different languages. There is a peace pole project (click here to go to their website) which uses the phrase: May Peace Prevail On Earth.
